CHAMPIONSHIP

In Monday nights NCAA championship game Duke narrowly escaped the Butler Bulldogs 61-59. No one in the tournament had scored over 60 against the Butler defense and Duke needed exactly that to beat the Bulldogs.

This is Duke's first championship since beating Arizona in 2001.

NIT championship

One year after winning the NCAA national championship the North Carolina Tar Heels could not grab the NIT title. UNC lost to Dayton last night 79-68.
This may have been the last year for the NIT with talk of NCAA tournament expansion. Do you think the NCAA will expand, and will the NIT be a tournament next season?

UNC and NIT

North Carolina is on the way to the NIT championship game. Last night UNC narrowly escaped URI in overtime, 68-67. UNC will face Dayton in the title game Thursday.

Duke to Final Four

Even with a lack luster performance from Kyle Singler the Duke Blue Devils were able to outlast Baylor 78-71. This is Duke's first trip to the Final Four since 2004 when they lost to Uconn.

Duke to elite eight

The Duke Blue Devils are moving on to the elite eight thanks to a big second half from Nolan Smith. The Blue Devils beat Purdue 70-57.

NCAA 2nd round

After Sunday play the ACC only has one team left in the tournament. The Duke Blue Devils are the only team moving into the sweet sixteen after they beat California 68-53.

NCAA 1st round

Four out of the six ACC teams moved on past the first round of the NCAA national championship tournament. Duke, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest were the four teams to move on. The two to get knocked off were, Florida State and Clemson.

Champion Crowned

Sundays ACC championship game ended with the Duke Blue Devils knocking off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 65-61.
This is Duke's 9th ACC tournament championship in the last 12 years.

With wins by both Duke and Maryland Saturday, the regular season title is split by the Blue Devils and the Terps.
Duke beat down rival North Carolina 82-50.
And Maryland topped Virginia 74-68.

Tie for ACC regular season title

Wednesday night,fresh off of being rated 4th in the country, Duke lost to Maryland 77-72.
Maryland was one game behind top ACC team Duke, but after this game the two are tied in the standings.
Will either team lose this Saturday and give the other a chance to win the conference out right?
Duke plays home against North Carolina and Maryland goes to Virginia.

North Carolina is now on a short winning streak as they beat Miami 69-62. Also Clemson made a move up in the standings by beating Georgia Tech 91-80.

Weekend Summary

Saturday matched up six ACC schools against each other. Maryland won another game to keep them close to the conference leading Blue Devils by beating Virginia Tech 104-100. Georgia Tech bounced Boston College, 73-68. North Carolina stopped their losing streak by beating Wake Forest, 77-68. And NC State topped Miami by five, 71-66.

Miami tops Virginia

On Tuesday night Miami helped their position in the ACC standings by beating Virginia 74-62. The win brings them off the bottom of the conference standings.
It also brings up the question of the winner of the conference tournament.
So with how weak the ACC is this year is the conference tournament champion going to be Duke, or can a team like Miami or Virginia come from the bottom and win the conference?

Tuesdays Action

Number 25 Wake Forest was beat by Virgina Tech Tuesday by the score of 87-83. With the win Virgina Tech keeps a hold of second in the ACC behind Duke.

Also on Tuesday Georgia Tech beat North Carolina, 68-51. North Carolina continues to struggle and is 3-8 in conference play.

Injuries keep key players out

North Carolina didn't only lose their game to Duke Wednesday night, they also lost their start player. To go along with two other big players Ed Davis will now be out for six weeks with a broken wrist. Duke also lost one of its main players in this game. Senior Lance Thomas is listed as doubtful for the Blue Devils upcoming game against Maryland. Thomas will be recovering from a bruised knee.

What do you think North Carolina's chances are to turn there season around now that Davis is done for what looks to be the rest of the season? And will Duke be able to stop Maryland inside without one of their top defenders, in Thomas?

Rivalry revisited

The Duke Blue Devils went down to Chappel Hill and beat a struggeling Tar Heel team. Neither team played too well but as the time ran out in the second half Duke had the 64-54 victory. Not one dominate ACC team

With the NCAA basketball season in conference play there has yet to be one team from the ACC to show that it is the top power from that conference. Duke and Florida State kept their rankings at one and two respectively from last week, but after these two the rest is one big jumble.
